Individually bagged desiccant for a defence contractor in Singapore

A defence contractor in Singapore needed desiccant it could trust to be dry at the point of use. We supplied military-specification packs, each sealed alone in a moisture barrier bag.

Location

Need
Desiccant, packed one unit per barrier bag
A carton of sealed foil moisture barrier bags, each holding one desiccant pack

The problem

The customer seals sensitive assemblies for storage and shipment, and each sealed package needs a desiccant pack inside. The desiccant has to be fully active when the package is closed.

Desiccant starts to take up moisture the moment it is exposed to air. Loose packs from an opened bulk bag lose capacity every hour they sit on the line, and nobody can tell by looking.

The customer asked for packs to the military desiccant specification, packed one unit per bag so each pack could be opened only when needed, with lot marking for the records.

How we worked

From the first visit to the finished product

  1. Agree the specification

We confirmed the desiccant specification, the unit size and the barrier bag requirements with the customer's quality team.

  2. Source and check

We sourced activated desiccant that meets MIL-D-3464E Type I and II, and barrier bags made to MIL-PRF-131K Class 1.

  3. Pack one per bag

Each activated pack goes into its own barrier bag and is heat sealed, using the sealing settings printed on the bag.

  4. Mark and ship

Bags carry a lot number and date, and are packed in cartons for stores. Repeat orders follow the same pattern.

The solution

  • Desiccant to specification. Activated packs marked MIL-D-3464E Type I and II, labelled with the contents and the reactivation details.
  • One unit, one bag. Each pack sealed alone in a moisture barrier bag, so opening one bag does not expose the others.
  • Sealing guidance on the bag. The bag shows the heat seal temperature, pressure and dwell time, so the seal is done the same way each time.
  • Lot marking. Bags carry a lot number and date for traceability.

What the customer received

  • Desiccant packs to the military desiccant specification
  • Each pack sealed in its own barrier bag, ready to use
  • Lot and date marking on every bag
  • Cartons packed for stores, with repeat supply from Singapore
